Burncoat's Got Talent

Burncoat Senior High School hosted the annual talent show, “Burncoat's Got Talent”, on April 2, 2015 at 6:30 PM. With an opening act consisting of a skit of singers and dancers acting in the spring musical Little Shop of Horrors, it was clear to me why the students attended a magnet school. The two hosts, Shyeisha Brown and Rudolph Jean-Baptiste, captured the crowd with their quirky jokes and non-stop amplified energy.

The first performers were seniors AJ Texeira and Allison Terry, doing a duet of the song "Riptide" originally sung by Vance Roy. Solo singers included Khelon Robinson Fraser, Mary Whitney, Wanjiru Waweru, Michaela Jones, Shalom DeSota, Neneh Jalloh, Naden Scott and Toni Brennan. Devin Dupuis played a smashing song on his electric guitar.

Lois Ado and Tytiunna Shaw were the first of the dancers of the night, but not the last! Edwin Rivera put on a hip hop dance act which pleased the crowd and got them on their feet. He wasn't the only single dance performance. Allie Lewcyzk's jazz dance, in tribute to her dance teacher, wowed the audience. Eleanor Assie, Stacy Appiah, Keenor Anum-Sowah and Tamera Tarwoe were the last of the performances and also the competition's winners for the evening. The group of four took home the victory thanking God and each other for their teamwork and support.

Overall, “Burncoat's Got Talent” was a show not to be missed.Through continuous practices and hard work, the contestants enjoyed themselves as they shared their talent with students, faculty and community members. Make sure to join us next year when the annual show arrives again.
