Climate: It’s Changing

Whether you believe in climate change or not, there are clearly environmental problems happening around the world. A recent string of hurricanes has caught the attention of everybody on earth and though it has brought tragedy, perhaps it will bring change.

After President Trump pulled out of the Paris Agreement, an agreement that helps to fight climate change, many Americans wondered how important it was. After the devastation in Houston and Puerto Rico that was brought by powerful storms, Americans are beginning to worry. In Puerto Rico, the entire island was left without electricity for a period, and many people were, and are still, in need of shelter. This amount of devastation has pushed lawmakers to begin thinking about what should be done so these events will not continue to wreak havoc on the United States and on the world.

Climate change is not just a concern for the United States, it has also been a concern for countries in Europe. During the summer, an unusual heatwave, aptly named “Lucifer”, hit Italy, Croatia, and France. Temperatures of about 90 degrees stood still for days and night straight. A long period of heat can be very dangerous, leading to many health problems including dehydration. With the heatwaves and hurricanes, the world has officially began to worry about our environment. But whether our lawmakers do something about it is a whole different question.
