Dimes for Diapers

Back in the beginning of November, a group of Burncoat students went on a field trip along with students from other Worcester schools to a motivational event. At the event, students listened to different speakers, including special guest speaker Liz Murray from the well-known movie Homeless to Harvard. Liz Murray told her story of how she struggled with homelessness, and how receiving help from other people made her feel better.

These speakers enlightened all the students about how there are still many problems in the nation and how students can help improve them. Thanks to Liz Murray and the company who held the event, Burncoat students were given ideas of how they can help their own community that they live in and grew up in.

They were given three ideas for community service projects to be held at Burncoat. In the end, the students and teachers who went on the trip decided on “Dimes for Diapers.” They are in the middle of getting this great project implemented at Burncoat in which students can donate any spare dimes they have so that money can be built up to pay for diapers for struggling parents. Government funded programs, such as food stamps, provide for other needs of families, but do not provide for the cost of diapers.

Knowing now that a simple dime could help a baby, Dimes for Diapers hopes that the wonderful students and staff of Burncoat Senior High School are willing to help out in this project and make a difference in the lives of families, and their children.
