To Promposal or Not To Promposal?

All over the country, boys and girls are asking each other to prom in a somewhat new fashion.

A Connecticut teen used the harsh 2015 winter to his advantage, by carving out a special ice sculpture for his girlfriend. “Prom?” has always been the question. But in recent years, big gestures and spectacles have been the trendy way of asking it.

From handmade signs, questions over the loudspeaker, to decorated rooms and hallways- these “promposals” are getting bigger and more expected. Another teen in Idaho asked his date to prom using one of the largest digital billboards in his town. Expenses are rising and creativity is being stretched.

What about Burncoat? Of course the “promposal” trend is alive and well here! Most people seem to be like student Sabrina Gabrielle, “I frickin’ love them!”, or at least tolerate them as a nice break from the everyday school day.

For instance, one Burncoat student was sitting in Spanish class when her boyfriend came in with some friends and “promposed” in the middle of class. He had flowers and a sign that read “Don’t give us bad blood, and make my dreams come true.. Prom?”. An adorable and personal gesture, referencing the Taylor Swift songs she loved.

“Promposals” were not even thought up yet a generation ago, but now they are stretching the limits of teen’s creativity and audacity. They are becoming a symbol of our generation, our way to stand out. To ask the question... Prom?
