Mrs. Curran- Librarian of the Year

Before becoming a librarian at Burncoat High School, Mrs. Michela Curran worked at a local elementary school level as a librarian, as well as a second grade teacher. She originally attended college to pursue a career in the fashion industry, but thankfully for us, her Burncoat family, she set about another course of action and has been our devoted librarian for the past 14 years and counting.

Taking her father’s advice, she attended graduate school to become an elementary school teacher. During this same time, she traveled to Europe and taught at the second grade level in London. While in London, she traveled all over Europe. Upon returning to the states, she moved to Worcester with a few friends and taught in the city. It was at that time that she realized that the best part of her day was reading with her students and teaching them how to use technology. For a second time, Mrs. Curran went back to graduate school, but this time to pursue a degree in Library Science.

Being a librarian has become very rewarding experience for Mrs. Curran. What interests her most is the fact that she is always learning to better her skillset, and to help others. Working at Burncoat High School has given her the best of both worlds. Mrs. Curran not only enjoys the students, but the staff she gets to work with every day as well. In her words, “helping students and staff to learn and use technology to advance their skills is priceless.” An added addition to the richness of her job is being around great books and helping students find books that speak to who they are. In the words of Mrs. Curran, “I hope I have made an impact during my years here.” She is Burncoat High School's best librarian, Mrs. Michaela Curran, and our teacher of the quarter.
