Fond Farewell
Burncoat is known for the incredibly talented art programs offered to its student body. Interested people flock from out of district to take advantage of the unique opportunity to draw, sing, dance, act, play instruments, build sets or anything in between, everyday! Students love for their magnet and magnet teachers is unparalleled and there is always some rivalry over which magnet is the best. The school year is coming to a close and in merely a few days the class of 2016 will begin their last summer before college. A lot of the graduating class is pursuing further education in the arts this upcoming fall. Hearing how their life has been changed from learning the building blocks of theatre or the first few notes on the violin freshman year, to directing a show or getting a lead in Evening of Dance senior year, may encourage you to join one yourself!
Throughout all the magnets, it is very clear that passion, talent, and love circulates through the hearts at Burncoat. Seniors representing each art had nothing but positive comments to say about their experience over the years.
A student of the Theatre program, Kristen Pichette, who plans to continue her studies in college, discussed her plans for the future. “I’m attending Boston University for Technical Theatre. [I am] literally so excited and so thankful I’m able to pursue what I love, with the experience Theatre at Burncoat has provided me. I can’t wait to wake up and go to my dream job every day.”
“[The experience] is life-changing,” John Alicandro described of his journey in Theatre. “I may not be going into Theatre in college, but I’m still thankful for the experience.”
Students in the Art, Dance, and Music magnets across the board describe what they have learned as individuals all thanks to their magnet.
Dance students, Caitlyn Lafleche and Claire Mullan described what they have gained. “We found great friends here.” Lafleche could not contain her smile. “I learned qualities of life, respect [for example],” said Mullan.
Art student, Alana Landry stated, “All the arts here are talented and I feel like I learned to love art here. [I learned to] appreciate art here.”
When asked to describe her Burncoat experience in her respective program coming to a close, Molly Roach of the Music magnet seemed to sum up everybody’s feelings in one perfect word: “Bittersweet.”
As the year counts down to the Seniors’ final days, we wish them nothing but success in their various futures, arts related or not, we know they will continue in life with Burncoat’s memories forever in their hearts. Bleed Green Class of 2016.
