What’s New With the Burncoat Library?

Determined to bring various changes to Burncoat High School, Mrs. Curran and Mr. Foley drafted a plan to renovate the library. They appealed to a company called AbbVie Pharmaceutical Company, which gave Burncoat the grant to fund the project. AbbVie Pharmaceutical Company is an organization that focuses on innovations in health, but additionally, they are known for supporting schools and their programs. The Burncoat library had not been updated for roughly thirty years and was in desperate need of updating. The project launched this spring and will conclude in about 2-3 weeks, with the help of Heart of America, a volunteer group. The grant will be used to completely remodel the ceiling and the floor of the library, and buy new furniture, computers, and books.

"The biggest emphasis is on new technology, especially those similar to what you would see in colleges," said Mrs. Curran.

"Making the library look like a 21st century media center is exciting," said Mrs. Friedman, the foreign language department head, "The new library will benefit students more than ever because students will have a comfortable, but modern media center to do their projects and study, rather than do these things at home where your resources may be very limited. Students will want to learn to use some of the new programs and the applications installed, allowing them to take advantage of the opportunity to work in an environment that is close to a work place." She concluded.

We tend not to show appreciation for what our teachers and administrators do for us, but hopefully this new library will change our perspective. The grant has made an important difference in our school. Burncoat High School gives thanks to Mrs. Curran, Mr. Foley and other administrators who helped. We also give thanks to the AbbVie Pharmaceutical Company and the Heart of America for all their help and support.
